The fruit processing industry and derivatives

Effluents generated by theses activities have high, easily digestible carbon levels which make them difficult to treat with traditional treatment plants :

  • very acidic pH
  • effluent deficient in nitrogen and phosphorus
  • pollution peaks potentially very high

VALBIO METHACORE® anaerobic granular sludge technology is particularly suited to this type of effluents. It is a pre-biological treatment able to reduce the organic carbon load by 90% minimizing sludge production and energy consumption.

This highly flexible biological process, able to cope with organic overloads up to 300%, provides a safe stepping stone to the final aerobic treatment stage, and the discharge to the environment.


Reducing OPERATING costs

When traditional aerobic treatment solutions require large energy inputs to operate (important aeration power requirement), the anaerobic digestion generates enough energy to its own needs and allows an on-site recovery. In addition to these energy savings, there is a very low reagent consumption and a reduced sludge production. 


  • Treatment in accordance with the legislation
  • Very compact system (reactor volume divided by 10)
  • Double biological stage process making it flexible enough for fluctuations in organic load, including overloads
  • Very low sludge production : 10 times less than with a traditional process
